Question Word Какой

In our previous lessons we’ve talked about the adjectives in Russian language, and today let’s talk about how to form the questions using question word какой (какое, какая, какие). Have fun!

You already know how to ask someone
Где это?
Кто это?
Что это?

Question word какой (какое, какая, какие) can be translated into English as what? Which? What kind (of)? What sort (of)? Word Какой declines by genders.

For example:
If you are asking a question about a masculine noun, you will use word Какой?
If you are asking about a feminine noun, you will use Какая?
If you are asking about a neuter noun, use Какое?
And if you are asking about multiple objects, use Какие?

Let’s take a look at a few examples:

1.
– Какой это цвет (masculine)?
– Это жёлтый цвет.

– What colour is it?
– This color is yellow.

2.
– Какое сегодня число (neuter)?
– Двадцатое.

– What date is it today?
– 20th.

3.
– Какая у тебя собака (feminine)?
– Овчарка.

– What dog do you have?
– German shepherd.

4.
– Какие фильмы(plural) тебе нравятся?
– Мне очень нравятся ужастики.

– What movies do you like?
– I like horror movies.

Now it’s time to practice:
Ask me these questions in Russian. In brackets you will see the nouns from the questions translated into Russian. You can use in your questions.

What books are these? (книги)
What plant it? (растение)
What candy is it? (конфета)
